Connecting Women to Pregnancy Support...

Abortion Laws and Telling your Parents:

When considering an abortion, teenagers must consider Maryland’s Parental Notification laws. In the ideal situation, you would already be in communication with your parents about your crisis pregnancy. However, sometimes it can be a scary thing. Girls think, “my parents will kill me!”, but often the outcome of including parental guidance is much better than imagined.

Sometimes, girls hope that an abortion is the only way of getting through their crisis pregnancy without having to tell their parents or guardian, but, in the State of Maryland, the law states that women under the age of 18 are required to notify a parent when choosing an abortion. So when considering your options, remember that your parents may not be happy at first, but, they could possibly be your best allies. No matter what you decide do, they should be included in your process.

If you are afraid of talking to them, try going to another trusted individual. If they are willing, you may be able to have them help you talk to your parents. Go slowly and be understanding. Remember how you felt when you found out? They are going through all those emotions and more, especially because you are their child.
